FRIDAY, 10 JULY - COCKTAIL

Friday, 10 July

COCKTAILS, COCKTAILS, COCKTAILS
20:00 - midnight - at Antica Torre di Via Tornabuoni, n°1
Via dei Tornabuoni, 1

For the youth! Please notice the time, as we posted the wrong time on the blog! Also, bring a light wrap as it could get a little crisp. Mosquito spray might also come in handy.

Parking: For those of you coming from the countryside and coming from the Superstrada or the via Volterrana, near the Certosa, follow the signs to Porta Romana. The closest parking lot is in Piazza di Cestello. From Porta Romana, go straight along the outside of the old city wall on Viale Petrarca. Continue past Piazza Tasso on Viale Ariosto, turn right on Borgo San Frediano at the old gate to the city. Make a quick left on Via S. Onofrio, then a quick right to Piazza di Tiratoio, another quick left and then quick right and you will end up in Piazza di Cestello. This seems a little confusing, so just look at your map! Antica Torre is on the other side of the river and it is about a 10 minute walk.

Another parking lot is on Via Borgo Ognissanti, 96.
Garage Europa -tel: 055-292 222- We have reserved 30 spaces until 20:30.
You can say you are going to the Antica Torre.
Follow the above directions, but after you turn right on Borgo San Frediano and make the quick left, continue straight and cross the river. Go 2 blocks and turn left on Via Borgo Ognissanti. The garage will be on you right up the street a little.
You will have a 10 minute walk to the cocktail party.

Bus:
The bus from Villa di Tizzano will leave at 19:00 and leave to bring you back "home" again at midnight.

SATURDAY, 11 JULY - WEDDING CEREMONY AND RECEPTION

Saturday, 11 July

WEDDING CEREMONY
19:00 at La Pieve di Sant'Alessandro a Giogoli.
Please don't be late. Don Giorgio likes to start on time!

Directions:
See the map on the invitation.
From Florence, follow the signs to Galluzzo. After Galluzzo, continue straight to Via Volterrana.
The church will be on your right. From San Casciano, from the last roundabout, take Via Scopeti, to Via Faltignano, to Via Volterrana. The church will be on your left.

Transportation:
For those with cars, the parking is either along the Via Volterrana or in the olive fields next to the driveway up to the church. Be sure and lock your cars and keep everything out of sight. There have been problems in the past! Don't forget a wrap and the mosquito spray.

Bus:
Our friend, Terry Portwood, will be at the bus and accompany you to the church and the reception and home again. Her cell is: 340-4803505.The bus for the people in Florence will leave from Piazza Ferrucci at 17:30. The bus from Villa di Tizzano will also leave at 17:30. There will be a walk of 100 meters to the church.

Reception following at Villa Le Corti, San Casciano in Val di Pesa.

Directions:
See the map on the invitation. To arrive at Villa Le Corti, turn right on Via Volteranna as you leave the church, take a soft left on Via Faltignano, to Via Scopeti to the roundabout in San Casciano. Follow the signs (at the roundabout) to Mercatale. Turn left and continue straight until you reach the sign "Fattoria Le Corti".

Parking:
There is a large marked parking area at the Villa.
Bus: The bus will leave Villa Le Corti to return to Piazza Ferrucci and Villa di Tizzano at about 1:00am and at 3:00am.
Terry Portwood will coordinate that.

SUNDAY, 12 JULY . BRUNCH - POOL PARTY

Sunday, 12 July

BUFFET LUNCH AND POOL PARTY
From 13:00 - 18:00 at Villa di Tizzano, Via Castel Ruggero, 71 - Bagno a Ripoli

Don't forget your suit and towel. There will be a lifeguard.

Directions:
See the map on the invitation.
Coming from Florence, through Grassina, the tricky part is to turn left, crossing a little bridge, right after the town, following the signs to San Polo in Chianti. The driveway to Villa Tizzano is at the top of the hill and there is a sign that says you are leaving Bagno a Ripoli. This is about 12-15 minutes from the town of Grassina. Turn right here to go up the cypress - lined road to the villa. Villa Tizzano is the first home on the right and there is a large green gate. Coming from the direction of San Polo in Chianti, you will turn left at the top of the hill to go up the road to the villa. Villa Tizzano is only a few minutes from San Polo in Chianti.

Parking:
Please carpool as parking is extremely limited.

Bus:
The bus will leave Piazza Ferrucci at 12:00 and bring you back around 18:00.
Terry will be there to accompany you.

If you have any questions or problems please call our family friend, Anne Rinaldi.
She loves to help! She even studied French at university.

TOURIST INFORMATION

WEATHER & DRESS CODE
It will be hot and possibly humid in July. It is best to bring cotton and linen clothes and sandals (or comfy shoes). Shorts are not worn in Florence, but they are fine around a pool or for sports

CASH & TIPPING
It is best to have an ATM card and to pull money out of the many cash machines that are around. Credit cards are accepted in some places, but everyone likes and uses cash. For those of you coming from abroad, it is a good idea to already arrive with about E200.00. (Sometimes the machines don't work)!
Tipping is not much expected in Italy. You can round up a restaurant bill, perhaps to 5%.

TOBACCO SHOPS
These shops are everywhere and they have a big "T". They sell phone cards, bus tickets, stamps, cell phone credit, etc.

SHOPS
Most shops, except for those in the tourist center of Florence, are open from 9:00 - 1:00 and from 4:00 - 8:00pm. The shops in the historic center are open over lunch too.

BARGAINNING
Sometimes if you pay in cash you will get the price reduced a bit (5-10%). You can politely ask if there is a better price.
TELEPHONE & EMAIL
Telephone: A european cell phone is the best way to go. If you are coming from the US, read the cell phone agreement well as often the companies say that the phone can be used all over europe and the number is a UK number and very very expensive. I suggest buying a cheap (E60,00) cell phone here and then put money in it.

Long distance calls: You can buy a phone card at a tobacco shop for E5.00 and talk for 400 minutes.

Internet: Some places have wireless and other places not. There are plenty of internet cafes to check email, etc.

LODGING

We have prepared a list of hotels and bed and breakfasts in or near downtown Florence, as well as a list of hotels and « agriturismi » in the countryside near the wedding site. Generally speaking, the prices indicated are the prices that we have negotiated especially for you, but they are to give you a general idea of the price.
Try to book fast !
All the countryside accommodations are about 20 to 30 min from Florence, and from 10 to 20 min maximum of Le Corti. In trying to make up your mind where to stay, consider the fact that it will be cooler in the country than the city (Florence in HOT in July), but you will need a car if staying outside the city.
When you call, mention the KAUFFMAN / JANNET or CHARLIE / CLARA wedding (in Italian, « matrimonio »).

LOCAL TRANSPORTS & PARKING

TRAIN TRAVEL
Be sure and stamp your ticket in the machines that are at the head of each track before getting on the train. Plan to arrive at the train station 20 minutes before your departure, so that you can figure out where to go. Watch your bags and purses at the station.
Train info: www.trenitalia.it

TAXI NUMBERS
Florence: 055-4390 / 055-4242. Taxis charge extra for late evenings, baggage, Sundays and holidays. No tip is expected, but you can leave E1.00 if you want.

DRIVING
Drive in the lane on the right. The lane on the left is only for passing. Use your turn indicator!

BUSSES
Riding the bus is a good way to get around florence. You can buy a bus ticket at most cafes and bars and also at the tabacco (T) shops. A bus ticket costs about Euro1.00 (the prices keep changing) and is good for 70 minutes. You enter the bus by the front or back doors and stamp your ticket in the orange machine. There are spot checkers to see if your ticket has been validated. If not, the fine is Euros 50.00. You leave the bus through the middle door.

PARKING
The white spaces are for residents and you cannot park there. The blue spaces are for everyone and you pay for them. There usually is a parking machine within a block and you put in money there (usually E1.00 per hour), take the ticket and put it on your dashboard. There are also parking garages throughout the town.

ENTERING FLORENCE WITH A CAR
The center of Florence is closed to traffic and can only be entered before 9:00am and after 7:30 pm. There are cameras everywhere and you will be given a large fine if you enter. Ask at your hotel as they may be able to give you a pass to drive into the center. The best idea is to park outside the city center and walk in or take a bus. For those of you staying near Piazza Ferrucci or the Hotel Silla, that is where the historic center begins and you can leave your car there (at paid parking) and walk in.
